Topping the JC Power 100 list made Mick "the Miner" Davis's weekend – he was overheard to have said – but others were less than pleased at the ranking of communal heavyweights.
The omission of Jewish Care president, Lord Levy, was blasted by its chairman Steven Lewis.
While some questioned why senior figures such as Lords Young and Sugar or Richard Desmond had failed to make the cut, others bemoaned a lack of student and youth leaders. Former UJS president Joe Tarsh said, "Their absence speaks volumes about how the judges view the youth of our community."
But the choice of Limmud volunteers – who collectively came in at number 10 – delighted its chairman Kevin Sefton, who said: "we can all feel pride in this recognition and it is a reflection of Limmud's impact".
And writer Naomi Alderman (88 on the list) welcomed the inclusion of Jewish Care vice-chairman Debbie Fox (number 53), who also happens to be her Pilates teacher.
