Posters were plastered across a north London suburb this week warning locals about the early release from prison of a paedophile former barmitzvah teacher.
The flyers, which were distributed anonymously, asked residents of Mill Hill to be “vigilant” after the release of Jason Blair, who was also a chazan.
In 2018 Blair, then 47, was sentenced to seven years for the sexual assault of a teenage girl.
The father-of-two was found guilty of five counts of sexual assault against a single victim, who was aged 13 and 14 at the time of the offences.
A glassblower by profession, Blair was ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for life.
The poster warned that “paedophile Jason Blair” had “just been released from a seven-year prison sentence,” and gave a brief description of his crimes and victims, as well as the area in which he lived. The poster declared: “Please be vigilant!”
Police have been informed, according to Scotland Yard. A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police told the JC: “The North West Command Unit is aware of the posters, which are being removed by the local authority.”
The Ministry of Justice confirmed that Blair had been released in recent weeks.
However it stressed that his conviction had been for sexual assault and not for rape, as claimed in the poster.
The posters were also pasted on numerous social media sites, though some were later removed.
They were placed on postboxes, street signs, bus stops, an ATM and even on a chanukiah set up in Mill Hill Broadway by the local shul.
Some were displayed just yards from Mathilda Marks-Kennedy School on Hale Lane, and easily visible to neighbourhood children who walk to school.
Blair was known in the Jewish community for his work as a glass-blower, creating pieces for chupahs, and also as a chazan and events manager for barmitzvah parties. He has also worked as a tutor for barmitzvah boys.
