Prime Minister Liz Truss has committed to meeting with representatives of the British Jewish community including Board of Deputies president Marie van der Zyl.

In a letter seen by the JC, the new Prime Minister thanks Ms van der Zyl for her congratulations on winning the Conservative Party leadership contest and taking up her role in Downing Street.

In the letter, the Prime Minister said: "The Government's relationship with the Jewish community is of the utmost importance, and I am incredibly grateful for the excellent work the Board of Deputies carries out, as the voice for the British Jewish community.

"I was very pleased to have met you and Michael Wegier in my previous post as
Foreign Secretary, and I look forward to continuing this close relationship with the Board of
Deputies as Prime Minister.

"I welcome a meeting with you and other Jewish organisations to further discuss the challenges facing the Jewish community and how the Government can offer its support to overcome them.

I have asked officials to arrange this meeting as soon as my diary will allow.
Thank you, once again, for taking the time to write.
