Shadow foreign secretary Lisa Nandy has been attacked on social media by leftwing activists after describing the treatment of Tzipi Hotolevy as ‘unacceptable’.
Following the incident at LSE last night, where Israeli Ambassador Tzipi Hotolevy had to be escorted to her car by security, Ms. Nandy posted a message of support ambassador Hotolevy, saying: “The appalling treatment of Israeli Ambassador @TzipiHotovely is completely unacceptable. There is no excuse for this kind of behaviour.
“Freedom of speech is a fundamental right and any attempt to silence or intimidate those we disagree with should never be tolerated.”
Soon after posting, Nandy started to receive abusive replies to her tweet from leftwing journalists and activists as well as anonymous accounts.
Ashok Kumar, a professor of political economy at Birkbeck, tweeted that Nandy was an ‘embarrassing person’ and member of a ‘useless party’
Other self-proclaimed leftists posting using anonymous accounts on twitter replied with statements like ‘F**k Keir Starmer’s Labour Party’ and called the shadow Foreign Secretary ‘Nakba Nandy.’
Nick Thomas-Symonds, shadow Home Secretary also posted in support of the ambassador, causing Novara Media’s Aaron Bastani to label him ‘utterly disgusting’ and claim he didn’t ‘give a rats arse about minorities.’
