Police in London are appealing for witnesses after antisemitic graffiti was daubed on posters advertising Holocaust Memorial Day.

The words “liar” and “killers” were sprayed in red across one advert in Newham.

The graffiti, which has been treated as racially aggravated criminal damage, has been removed.

Sir Robin Wales, the mayor of Newham, said: “This despicable and cowardly hate crime is an assault on the values of decency and mutual respect which the vast majority of us share.

“This outrage underlines not only the importance of keeping the memory of the Holocaust alive but of standing up to intolerance and hatred at every opportunity.“

No arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

Newham council’s Holocaust Memorial Day event will take place on January 27 at Stratford Town Hall.
