Police alerted over antisemitic graffiti in Stamford Hill

articlemain

A spate of obscene antisemitic graffiti has been reported to police.

The message, reading “F*** YIDS”, was scrawled on a sign saying “Refugees and Immigrants Welcome,” as well as at three other locations in Stamford Hill, north-east London.

Shomrim, the Jewish volunteer security group, discovered the graffiti today and alerted the police.

Michael Scher, a supervisor for Shomrim’s Stamford Hill branch, said: “Local residents were shocked and disgusted to see the racist and antisemitic graffiti appear in their neighbourhood.

“Shomrim are reassuring local residents and encourage any witnesses to contact Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously.”

Mr Scher emphasised that “this appalling behaviour does not reflect the wider Hackney community, who are generally very welcoming and friendly.”

Mark Gardner, Community Security Trust communications director, said: “It is somebody going around with a marker pen, but it is nasty and antisemitic, intended to cause alarm.”
