An Orthodox Jewish man has been jailed for three years after he was convicted of indecent assault of a child under the age of 16.
Menachem Mendel Levy, 41, from Golders Green was found guilty on two charges of assault against the girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons. The jury was unable to reach a decision on further charges of rape and attempted rape.
Sentencing him at Wood Green Crown Court on Thursday, Judge James Patrick said the victim was 14 years old when Levy initiated sexual conduct. The offences took place more than a decade ago.
Judge Patrick told Levy: "You abused your position and you abused her.”
He said Levy was a “hard-working family man” but also “arrogant and manipulative”.
Levy, a married father of six, had claimed the sexual contact was part of an extramarital affair that took place when the girl was over the age of 16.
Detective Constable Alistair Woods, from Barnet Police, said: "The victim has shown a tremendous amount of courage to come forward and give a detailed account of the abuse she suffered by Levy.
"No one should suffer in silence - I would urge anyone who is a victim to come and speak to us and let us help you. Specially trained officers will support you, and thoroughly investigate your claims.
"Menachem Levy abused his victim on numerous occasions. This sentencing demonstrates that the courts will prosecute those who prey on vulnerable people, irrespective of their background or status."
