London-based fashion designer Olivia Rubin is about to dress to impress.
On Monday, the 27-year-old will be putting on her debut show at London Fashion Week. The five-day event started yesterday at the Science Museum. Miss Rubin secured the slot after impressing the cognoscenti at last September’s event, where she had a stand.
“This is a massive opportunity for me,” Miss Rubin, who set up her eponymous company in 2007, tells People.
“The venue is amazing and seats more than 500 people. It’s a great chance for me to showcase my work.”
Miss Rubin’s designs are inspired by the art deco period. She says the collection is based on 1930s New York architecture. “I am known for my bold, graphic prints. I like things that stand out.”
As of next month, her designs will be stocked by leading online clothing retailer Asos.com.
A graduate of Central Saint Martins College, Miss Rubin began her career working for couture designer Jacques Azagury. She has also worked with John Galliano, Jade Jagger and Alexander McQueen.
“I am just putting everything into the show at the moment.” And she has some high-profile support on board to help her. Mac are sponsoring the makeup, while Luke Hersheson, of leading hair salon Daniel Hersheson, will be doing the hair styling.
Celebrity fans of Miss Rubin’s work include model Agyness Deyn and singers Lily Allen and Kelly Osbourne.
