Twenty-four year-old Oliver Ross has recently finished his second book. Titled A Year in the Life of Some Guy, the novel, he says, is an adult version of Sue Townsend’s Adrian Mole. It details the highs and lows of a fed up, love-struck London estate agent.

Mr Ross, who lives in Leeds, tells People: “I guess some of it is based on me. It’s quite tongue-in-cheek. You either love it or you hate it.” The story follows the life of Tim Calgon on his turbulent quest for happiness, job satisfaction and sexual enlightenment.

The book has already attracted quite a following on the website Authonomy, set up by publishers Harper Collins for amateur authors. Mr Ross’s style has been compared to that of Nick Hornby and Ben Elton. There is also an accompanying blog; www.ayearinthelifeofsomeguy.blogspot.com. His debut book, Hellequins — Legend of The Kriegen, is an adult fantasy about a group of teenagers trying to halt the demise of their village.
A Nottingham University graduate, Mr Ross hopes to become a professional author.
