#NotJewish has been trending in solidarity after a far-left Twitter account blocked scores of people, including many Jews, who criticise it over Labour antisemitism.

Labour Left Voice said it had moved to block people who were "persecuting" it.

On Monday, food critic Jay Rayner was among those who had never interacted with the account to suddenly notice he was blocked.

After several people in the Jewish Labour Movement noticed they had been blocked, the JLM's Jack Mayorcas asked Jewish people who were blocked by the account, despite never interacting with them to reply to him - and received 1,800 replies.

But those who were not Jewish and were also targetted by its blocking mechanism tweeted in solidarity and #NotJewish began trending high on Twitter.

One person speculated they may have been blocked for posting a photo of bagels.

Others said they were proud to be blocked, with one saying it may be because of his "strong and principled stance against antisemitism".

Critic Giles Coren, who is Jewish but was raised secular, said being blocked by the account meant it "turns out I AM Jewish".

Actress Tracy Ann Oberman thanks those tweeting in support, saying: "Your solidarity and tweets are hilarious and goodly."
