The police have not brought charges against a man who was arrested protesting outside the Globe Theatre last week.

A 22-year-old man was understood to be part of the anti-Israel demonstration calling for the Globe to prevent Israel's Habima National Theatre from performing The Merchant of Venice.

He was arrested on suspicion of assault outside the theatre after a security guard was injured. He was bailed pending further inquiries until June 7, but was not called back or charged.

Activists attempted to disrupt both performances, which were arranged as part of the cultural Olympiad, but despite people shouting and waving anti-Israel banners, the actors were able to continue.
