Jewish Hollywood agent Scooter Braun has been dropped by several of his A-list clients including Ariana Grande and Idina Menzel.

This weekend, popstar Ariana Grande set off a wave of speculation after she ended her longtime relationship with Braun, but said that the split was "amicable."

Two other singers, J Balvin and Demi Lovato, also said they were no longer working with Braun, sparking a wave of memes on social media, with users joking that a wide range of fictional characters were parting ways with him.

Braun's only comment on the exodus was to poke fun at himself, tweeting: "Breaking news… I’m no longer managing myself."

Braun, who was born in New York to Conservative Jewish Hungarian parents Ervin and Susan, was raised in the US state of Connecticut before attending the private Emory University outside of Atlanta where he became a party promoter.

In an interview with the Jerusalem Post Braun said that he identifies strongly with Judaism and Israel.

"I’m the grandson of two concentration camp survivors and I’m not afraid of who I am. If someone has a problem with it, they should bring it my way. I’m the kind of Jew that wants people to know that my family is never going to walk to their death, ever again."

He is credited with being one of the first agents to spot Justin Bieber as a potential talent, convincing his family to move permanently from Canada to Los Angeles to pursue a record deal.

In 2013, he also defended Justin Bieber's "Anne would've been a Belieber" message in the Anne Frank house in Amsterdam, saying: "What he wrote in that book reflected his personal connection between him and Anne Frank. He wanted her to be a fan of his. And I think that the reaction to it was atrocious and insulting."

In 2019, Braun had a public falling out with American pop star Taylor Swift over the ownership of her master recordings, which ended with Swift re-recording several of her albums to cut her record label out of profits.

Braun also has ties to other Jewish artists, including rapper Lil Dicky (David Burd), whose show Dave Braun is listed as an executive producer.

Until 2022, Braun was married to Jewish Canadian health activist Yael Cohen Braun, who founded the charity "F*ck Cancer" when her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer.
