Netflix to play Yente with new Jewish matchmaking show

Singles in the US and Israel will turn their love lives over to a matchmaker

A new Netflix show is promising to bring traditional Jewish matchmaking in the 21st century by getting singletons in the US and Israel to hand their love lives over to a matchmaker.

Jewish Matchmaking is currently in production by Netflix and promises to build on the success of Netflix hit Indian Matchmaking which debuted in 2020.

According to Netflix, “singles in the US and Israel as they turn their dating life over to a top Jewish matchmaker.”

They say the show will ask: “Will using the traditional practice of shidduch help them find their soulmate in today’s world?” 

Indian Matchmaking was a suprise hit for the streaming giant winning an Emmy in 2021 amid claims it featured classist reactions from daters on the show.

Netflix has produced multiple series on the orthodox Jewish community, including Unorthodox and One of Us, a critically acclaimed documentary on those who leave the Strictly Orthodox community in Williamsburg, New York.

Jewish Matchmaking does not currently have a release date.
