Miri Regev made a serious fashion statement in Cannes yesterday.

The Israeli Minister for Culture and Sport was on the red carpet for the opening film of the annual festival in the French Riviera town. And on her long, flowing skirt was a panorama of Jerusalem, with the Temple Mount front and centre.

Ms Regev confirmed that she had commissioned the piece from Aviad Herman, an Israeli designer.

“This year we are celebrating 50 years since the liberation and reunification of Jerusalem,” the Likud politician said.

“I am proud to celebrate this historic date through art and fashion, and I am happy that this work … is so moving and honours the beautiful status of our eternal capital, Jerusalem.”

Ms Regev, who is also a former spokesperson for the Israeli Defence Forces, will be opening the Israeli pavilion at the festival this afternoon.
