Rock ‘n’ roll guitarist Mick Green who played with Paul McCartney and Van Morrison has died aged 65.
Mr Green began his career playing with ‘60s band Johnny Kidd and the Pirates. He later played in the band Shanghai, which supported Status Quo on tour in 1976.
During his career he also played with Bryan Ferry, Paul McCartney and Van Morrison on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury.
He played guitar on five tracks of Van Morrison’s album Keep it Simple in 2008.
His sons, Brad and Lloyd Green, posted a statement on his website after his father’s death. He said: “In many ways it’s strange to hear people talking about dad as a legend, as a music icon because to Mum, Lloyd and me, he was above all a father a husband and a friend in equal proportion who simply happened to be a guitarist.
“I know those of us who knew him well will remember him for his humour, his sarcasm his razor sharp wit and his modesty.
“Heaven just got a bit louder.”
A fan posting on an internet message board wrote: “Saw Mick Green and the Pirates at a club in Bristol in the late 70's and they were absolutely sensational. He was an unbelievable guitarist - a true original and one of Britain's best ever - I am really sad to hear the news of his passing."
Mr Green was laid to rest at Waltham Abbey Jewish Cemetery.
