Good news for wine lovers. Israeli Michael Dalal is introducing what he claims to be world’s only 100 per cent pure pomegranate wine to the UK market — and it’s kosher.
He says the wine, developed at the Rimon winery in Northern Israel, offers considerable health benefits. It is now being stocked in Waitrose and a selection of kosher outlets.
“Pomegranate is a bit of a wonder fruit at the moment,” Mr Dalal, 37, the sole distributor of the wine in the UK, tells People. “The techniques used to make the wine are virtually identical to the traditional methods of making grape wine. But pomegranate contains three times more antioxidants, plus iron, calcium and punicic acid. It is believed to have anti-ageing properties and improve circulation.
“People in the UK have become very health conscious and are thinking a lot more about what they are putting in their mouths.”
The Rimon wines, founded by the Nachmias Family, have taken five years to produce. Mr Dalal says the methods used are almost identical to the traditional methods of making grape wine. The only difference is in the machine that crushes the fruit.
They are priced at £14.99 a bottle.
And if you are thinking about trying it for Friday night, it takes a different blessing to grape wine: baroc ata ashem elokino melec haolam sh hakol niya bedvar.
