A government health agency has urged Orthodox Jews in London to vaccinate their children against measles.

Public Health England said that out of the 50 cases of measles found this year in Hackney, north London, the most affected area in London, 45 sufferers were from the Orthodox community.

PHE spokesman Cian Daly said: “The team is working hard with the community in the area — I know there has been letters sent back and forth to rabbis.

“There is a lower vaccine uptake in the community, so there has been a push to get their children vaccinated and make the parents aware that vaccines are available at local GPs.”

According to PHE, 10-14 year old children are most at risk.
