Big Bang Theory star and neuroscientist Mayim Bialik is calling on Americans to take their own oath to “preserve, protect and defend” the constitution of the United States on Inauguration Day this coming Friday.
“On January 20, when Donald Trump raises his right hand to take the oath, I’m going to raise my right hand, “to preserve, protect and defend the constitution,” she said, in a video which was shared on her Facebook wall, Twitter profile and YouTube account.
“Join me”, she continues. “Go to taketheoath.us and be part of the great American Evolution.”
The “TakeTheOath” initiative is seen as a tacit criticism of Mr Trump, suggesting he may not treat his oath of office with the necessary solemnity. It is being promoted by an organisation called “wall-of-us”, whose catchline is “He promised a wall. He will be stopped by a wall of us.”
After Ms Bialik’s video was met with online backlash by supporters of Mr Trump, she responded saying:
“My decision to join and #taketheoath doesn't mean defying Trump taking office; he totally is doing that Friday.
“Being part of this movement means that I have my own responsibility as a citizen to do what I believe is in the spirit of America - and free speech is still free.”
