Consumer champion Martin Lewis has been announced as the new regular co-host of ITV’s Good Morning Britain.

The financial expert and broadcaster, who founded the Money Saving Expert website, will co-host his first show on Wednesday, an end of tax year special. He will then present on various other Wednesdays throughout the year.

The 50-year-old said: “To have the ability to hold politicians to account over the cost of living is a privilege and a responsibility. It’s a slight gear change from my usual work but after years of answering complex questions, it’s nice for once to be asking them.”

Mr Lewis grew up in the village of Norley, in rural Cheshire. His father was the headmaster of Delamere Forest School, a school for Jews with special educational needs.

He established the Money Saving Expert site in 2003 and is now its executive chairman.

Since 2012, he has presented the prime time ITV series, The Martin Lewis Money Show, and he is a regular commentator on other programmes. He was name-checked by Chancellor Jeremy Hunt during his Budget statement.

Interviewed by the BBC’s Nick Robinson for the Political Thinking podcast last year, Mr Lewis said he had been a target for antisemitic comments because of the trope that Jews are good with money.

“As I always say, I’m the Money Saving Expert and I’m Jewish. I’m not the Money Saving Expert because I’m Jewish.”
