Mark Regev, the spokesman for Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, is expected to be announced as the new Israeli ambassador to Britain.
According to Israeli television reports and Israeli newspaper Ha’aretz, Mr Regev’s appointment will be confirmed by the cabinet after receiving approval from the Civil Service Commission.
Outgoing ambassador Daniel Taub ended his term last month, and his deputy, Eitan Naeh, has temporarily been covering the post.
Fifty-five-year-old Mr Regev, who was born in Australia and emigrated to Israel in 1982, has served as a diplomat for around 20 years, primarily as a media spokesperson.
Danny Danon has been appointed Israel's new ambassador to the United Nations.
The Likud Science Minister, who has sat in the Knesset since 2009, succeeds Ron Prosor, the former ambassador to the UK.
Announcing the appointment, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Mr Danon "has agreed to take on an important challenge that I proposed for him. The United Nations is an important forum right now and I am sure that Danny will represent the truth with full force in the international arena".
Mr Danon thanked Mr Netanyahu for trusting him to represent Israel during what he called a "challenging period".
"I will do everything to advance Israel's just positions," Mr Danon said.
