Luciana Berger, the Labour MP, has told a court how she "felt sick" when she saw antisemitic blogs describing her as "a rodent" and a "money grabber".
She said she was "incredibly concerned" at internet postings such as one using a classic antisemitic stereotype comparing a member of the Jewish faith to a rodent. "I felt sick really,” she said. “It's attacking me for my faith or religion and not something I have said or done for my constituents."
The Liverpool Wavetree MP was giving evidence during the trial of an alleged antisemitic blogger at the Old Bailey. Joshua Bonehill-Paine,24, had allegedly posted a series of hate-filled articles after blaming Ms Berger for the imprisonment of a far right colleague he described as a "comrade." Ms Berger revealed that she feared for her personal safety since she was elected as a Member of Parliament.
She said: "I have received antisemitism since I was elected as an MP." But the court heard how the messages escalated following the imprisonment of far-right activist Garron Helm in October 2014.
