Laurie Phillips finds a powerful Parkinson's therapy - in Israel

articlemain

Laurie Phillips has spent several years searching for the most effective treatments for his wife, Estelle, who suffers from Parkinson's disease - a progressive and debilitating neurological disorder.

The Dorset-based couple now believe they have found the best yet - a unique rehabilitation therapy devised in Israel - and Mr Phillips, 67, is helping to bring the man responsible
for it to the UK this
summer.

Called Gyro-Kinetics, the method was developed by Israeli martial arts expert Alex Kerten. It combines dance, touch and music to improve balance. There is also an emphasis on mental attitude.

Mr Phillips, a retired psychotherapist, tells People: "The difference in Estelle has been fantastic. She has only had to increase her medication by 1mg since we first went to see him, compared to the larger increases she was doing before we went.

"We also know other British people who have gone over to Israel and are just as enthusiastic about the technique. It is great that we are finally able to bring him over here." The Cecil Rosen Foundation is helping Mr Phillips to cover the travel costs.

The three-day workshop will run on 11-13 August at the Ramada Hotel in Watford and costs £200. Booking closes on July 20. "A lot of people have expressed interest but we need to continue to spread the word."
