You may just have been kissed by this woman. Novelist Lana spent an hour on the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square this weekend and used the time to read out affectionate messages — or “kiss requests”, as she calls them — from people in the crowd to their loved ones.
Ms Citron was taking part in Antony Gormley’s One and Other exhibition, in which members of the public occupy the plinth to become a piece of living art. She tells People: “I was spreading the love. I wanted to do something fun and interactive.” Plus, she is passionate about kisses, as she explains: “The kiss is such a huge symbolic and romantic gesture. It is so significant in so many parts of life. I am just fascinated by all different types of kissing — social, cultural and religious.”
Unsurprising then that her forthcoming novel, A Compendium of Kisses, is about just that. Published by Beautiful Books, it is “for die hard romantics and cynics alike” and is due out in February. She has written five other novels; Sucker, Spilt Milk, Transit, The Honey Trap and The Brodsky Touch.
She also wrote the award-winning short film I was the Cigarette Girl and the radio play Love Saboteur. A trained actress, she has appeared on TV, in films and on the stage.
Originally from Dublin, she now lives in Maida Vale, north London.
