The Shadow Business, Innovation and Skills Secretary has told Jewish organisations that Labour “condemns antisemitism in any form”.
In a meeting with the Board of Deputies and the Community Security Trust today, Angela Eagle spoke of her party’s “commitment to take whatever action is necessary to deal with such intolerable behaviour - it has no place in our party, or in our country”.
The session included representatives of the Union of Jewish Students and University Jewish Chaplaincy.
Ms Eagle said it had been good to hear directly about “concerns regarding incidents of antisemitism” at universities.
Labour’s Shadow Higher Education Minister Gordon Marsden also attended the meeting, which came after several weeks of the party being embroiled in scandals associated with alleged antisemitism.
On Sunday, major Jewish Labour donor Michael Foster attacked Jeremy Corbyn for appearing to tolerate antisemitism and showing contempt towards Jews.
