Judy Karbritz hunts for poets — in coffee shops

articlemain

Performance poet Judy Karbritz is scouting for talent. Ms Karbritz, who runs the Jewish Poetry Society — the organisation she co-founded with Pattie Greenberg — is encouraging aspiring poets to share their musings.

Initially, she hosted meetings in London coffee shops but demand was such that they moved to bigger premises. She is hoping to expand across the UK.

Middlesex-based Ms Karbritz, who works for the Jewish Association for the Mentally Ill (JAMI) tells People: “We feel that there is so much talent and creativity in our community that we want to celebrate it, be it in Manchester, Bournemouth or Glasgow. So, coffee shops around the UK — be ready for us.” Ms Karbritz has been writing poetry seriously for about 15 years.
