Judith Kerr to publish first illustrated novel in 37 years

articlemain

Much loved children’s author Judith Kerr has announced her first new illustrated novel in 37 years.

The author of The Tiger who Came to Tea and Mog has written a new book called Mister Cleghorn’s Seal. Inspired by a story her father, Alfred Kerr (who Ms Kerr wrote about in her semi-autobiographical novel When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit), told her as a child, the book tells the story of Mr Cleghorn rescuing a seal called Charlie and the adventures that follow.

While Ms Kerr has had books published in the last 37 years Mister Cleghorn will be her first illustrated novel since A Small Person Far Away was released in 1978.

Ms Kerr came to Britain as a child with her family as refugees from the Nazis, after fleeing from Germany in 1933.

Mister Cleghorn’s Seal will be published by HarperCollins on 10 September. You can listen to a sample here.
