The Jewish Leadership Council has called it "profoundly concerning" that a Labour councillor who was suspended for joking about "Jew process" is in line to replace Dame Louise Ellman as a MP for Liverpool Riverside.

The JC revealed earlier that Cllr Jo Bird was due to meeting local party members as a candidate to be the party's new candidate for the seat, after Dame Louise quit the party saying antisemitism had become "mainstream" under Jeremy Corbyn's leadership.

She was previously suspended by Labour after the JC exposed a series of inflammatory speeches she had made which included claims there was a “privileging of racism against Jews” over other forms of discrimination.
