Fanatics linked to terror group Daesh have issued new calls for attacks to be carried out against Jewish targets in the West – including communities living in the UK.
The Community Security Trust confirmed it had discussed “this particular threat” with the police, but stressed the postings did “not alter the current threat assessment for the UK Jewish community”.
In messages designed to encourage aspiring terrorists to carry out so-called lone-wolf style attacks, a social media channel called Lone Mujahid urged supporters to “dress up like a Jew” and conceal weapons under their coats before “unleashing the pain of the Muslims” on victims.
A further message contained a list of Jewish communities in the UK with a photograph of Amedy Coulibaly, the terrorist who attacked the Hyper Cacher kosher supermarket in Paris in 2015, with the caption: “Take the brother's example and terrorize the Yahood.”
The post is understood to have included photographs of buildings said to be Jewish.
The channel is known to be a dumping ground for inflammatory material. Last December it posted a call to jihadists to launch attacks over “Christmas, Hanukah and New Year’s Day.”
Experts say Daesh has become increasingly desperate in attempts to encourage attacks in the West because the group has lost territory in Syria and Iraq and the flow of foreign fighters has plummeted from a high of around 2,000 a month to 50 currently.
A CST spokesman said: “We are aware of this account and the posting and we have discussed this particular threat with the police.
“Their assessment, and ours, is that this social media post does not alter the current threat assessment for the UK Jewish community. We already have extensive security measures in place across the Jewish community to deal with the ongoing terrorist threat and it is important that all Jewish locations continue to fully implement their security procedures so that Jewish life can continue as normal.”
