A prestigious journalism prize has become the scene of a battle between some of Britain's most successful Jewish writers.
Among the 15 nominees for the 2011 Orwell Prize, which honours exceptional political reporting, are Financial Times columnist Gideon Rachman, Israeli-born Guardian writer Rachel Shabi and David Cohen of the Evening Standard.
Douglas Murray, director of the Centre for Social Cohesion, is also in the running for the £3,000 award.
The prize will be judged by JC political editor Martin Bright and author Michela Wrong. It was won by JC columnists Melanie Phillips in 1996 and David Aaronovitch in 2001. The winner will be announced on May 18.
