Jewish student fraternity at centre of sex abuse allegations says it is helping police

Alpha Epsilon Pi has already suspended a number of members

The all-male St Andrew university Jewish student fraternity at the centre of sexual abuse allegations has contacted police offering to help with their investigation.

Alpha Epsilon Pi has already suspended a number of young males who, it said, had “any role” in up to 12 alleged incidents of rape, sexual assault and harassment involving the fraternity.

The allegations emerged on a social media site – the St Andrews Survivors Instagram Account – which detailed 50 different incidents from victims of abuse.

A report in The Times quoted a source close to the fraternity who told them that “the chapter has proactively reached out to the local police offering to help”.

The Jewish Student Chaplaincy Scotland also said it was working with the university and students on campus.

AEPi St Andrews is a part of a worldwide organisation founded in 1913 in America to provide “a home from home” for Jewish students – and it has eight groups at UK campuses.

The university’s Jewish Society has said in an open letter that the “frequency of accusations against members of AEPi has caused concern to the possibility  that it may have been known previously.”
