Jewish volunteer security group Shomrim has offered to protect a London mosque threatened by anti-Muslim violence.

Members of the Stamford Hill -based organisation met mosque leaders at the Cazenove Road Mosque and Community Centre , in Stoke Newington, at the weekend.

Liberal Democrat councillor Ian Sharer brought the two groups together after a request by the local Muslim community who were concerned about a series of violent attacks in the area.

Cllr Sharer said: "This seemed like a natural thing to do. This is a very serious situation, and so I thought, why not call my friends from Shomrim? We wanted to see if we could offer them protection and also security lessons.”
