Two Jewish sites in Hackney have been targeted by vandals in the last 24 hours, it has been reported.
Last night, Stamford Hill’s Shomrim announced via Twitter that graffiti with the words “f*** the Jews” had been painted across the gates of Simon Marks Jewish Primary School in Stoke Newington.
The volunteer security service appealed for more information and added that they were using CCTV to try to find those responsible.
Local police confirmed that they were “investigating following reports of offensive graffiti on a school on Cazenoze Road in N16” and that, so far, no arrests have been made.
The offensive comment was reportedly cleaned off before children arrived at school this morning.
This followed an announcement made only hours earlier by Shomrim that a “suspect with an axe or hammer unprovokedly vandalised an unoccupied vehicle parked outside a synagogue on East Bank” – which the group later confirmed was Beth Hamedrash Skver shul, located minutes away from Simon Marks.
According to a Shomrim spokesperson, the suspect was caught on camera by a patrol car and had been “walking up and down the road with an axe”.
He added it was not thought that the two incidents were related.
