A Jewish man has been sentenced to seven and a half years in prison for sexual offences against young girls from Orthodox communities.

Abraham Ibrahim, of Woodmill Road in Clapton, East London, was found guilty of the offences against three separate underage children he met on social media.

One of the counts related to having sex with a child, two of sexual activity with a child, one of sexual communication with a child, one of meeting a child following sexual grooming and one of attempting to sexually communicate with a child.

He was also found guilty of three counts of possessing indecent images of children for distribution.

His brother, Yousef Ibrahim, was sentenced to a 12-month prison sentence for perverting the course of justice. Also known as Yossi Karni, he was convicted for attempting to threaten a victim in order to persuade her to retract her allegations.

The 21-year-old Abraham Ibrahim, who also goes by Avi Karni, was arrested on suspicion of child abuse offences in September last year after the parents of a 14-year-old girl found explicit images on her phone.

After exchanging messages, Abraham Ibrahim arranged to meet one of the victims outside London in June 2018, going on to commit a number of serious sexual offences against her.

He also communicated with another girl aged 14, who lived in London, meeting her several times and engaging in sexual activity.

In a victim impact statement read to the court, one of the victims said that she and her family had been ostracised by the Orthodox community, and she has subsequently suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

One of the crimes took place while he was on bail, after being arrested and charged with separate offences.

Passing sentencing at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Friday, His Honour Judge Alastair Hammerton said: “I find your use of social media to be extremely manipulative.”

Of one of the victims, he added: “You played on her good nature… You started sending her porn links. You would not let her escape.

“I am satisfied your use of social media was an example of grooming. You convinced her to meet you on her own."

The brothers are Yemenite Jews who was brought to the UK as a child by London’s Satmar Chasidic leaders.

Yousef Ibrahim contacted a friend of one of his brother’s victims, claiming to be a Mossad agent and member of the “Israeli special forces”, threatening to have the claimant arrested or killed unless she retracted her complaints.
