A new Jewish cemetery in Bushey has been awarded an international design prize at the World Architecture Festival.
The United Synagogue’s (US) New Bushey Cemetery, which was consecrated by the Chief Rabbi in May, won the religion award as judges praised the use of natural features and landscaping with an environmentally-sensitive approach.
Michael Goldstein, the US president, said: “The Bushey New Cemetery has a beauty and a dignity that provides a fitting resting place for our community’s loved ones. We are delighted that Waugh Thistleton has received this recognition for the wonderful work they have done.”
Waugh Thistleton Architects, who were commissioned to design the cemetery, used water features alongside its state-of-the-art prayer halls, which have walls made of highly-compressed natural materials.
