Jewish artist Jordan Dawson was recently picked by EA Sports over 40 other artists to help renowned boxer Anthony Joshua to design a signature football pitch.
The pitch is customised by Mr Joshua, with the help of Mr Dawson, and players of the new videogame Fifa 20 will be able to play on it. The pitch has also been built in real life in Shoreditch.
Working with Mr Joshua in his own gym, Mr Dawson told the JC he was a “down to earth guy”, who he didn’t expect to remember Mr Dawson from his previous work with Adidas. “I had met him previously, I had done a few commissions for him.
“When I turned up at the shoot, he actually remembered my name which shocked me, but he’s such a down to earth guy who is genuinely so nice.
He added that Mr Joshua was a “lovely guy” and “there’s just something about him that makes you smile”.
“He loves football himself, he grew up playing football and they needed someone to help design the pitch for him.
“It was kind of out of the blue considering it was just a guy messaging me on Instagram. I didn’t know whether it was real or not.”
Speaking about the pitch being built in Shoreditch, Mr Dawson told the JC it was “surreal seeing my work come to life.” He was also invited by EA to the international launch of Fifa 20, where he customised Adidas shoes for celebrities and footballers that attended.
Mr Dawson told the JC that at the launch he was approached by Adidas to become part of their design team.
