Who says that you cannot make a fortune as an employee of a public corporation? Recently it emerged that BBC creative director Alan Yentob had applied for £27,000 in expenses from his employers, the BBC. Now we learn that Jenny Abramsky — who, at 61, is stepping down as the director of audio and music after 40 years with the corporation — has what is believed to be the biggest individual public-sector pension, worth almost £4 million. Abramsky will be paid £190,000 a year from her final-salary pension scheme (remember those?) when she leaves to become chairman of the Heritage Lottery Fund. Good to know the licence fee is being put to such good use.
