JCoSS has been rated “good” with outstanding features in its latest Ofsted inspection.
The East Barnet school was given a rating of two – the same result it received three years ago – after being visited by the inspection service last month.
Inspectors praised the school’s headteacher, Patrick Moriarty, as an “exceptional leader”, its “outstanding” sixth form, and its Learning Support and Pears Special Resource Provision, which is provided for children with special educational needs.
The report recognised the school’s ethos and values of inclusiveness as “key factors” in its success. They said that the school’s mission “to build mensches” ensured that “pupils behave very well and that their personal development is good”.
But, inspectors added, “while teaching is good, inconsistencies remain” and that “expectations are not always high enough”.
They said that, in order to improve and win the top rating, the school must raise the bar of teaching so that it is consistently "good or better" across the board.
Chair of governors Jeremy Kosky said the Ofsted report had “highlighted JCoSS’ many exceptional strengths, the huge support that we have from parents and the excellent outcomes and progress of our students.”
He added: “Coupled with our exceptional first set of GCSE results and progress data in August 2015, the outstanding sixth form, and the integrity of our ethos, it is clear that in just five short years, JCoSS has established itself as an excellent school and is continuing to go from strength to strength."
