More than £7,500 has been donated by JC readers to the UK charity One Family to help Israeli paralysis victim Zion Shitrit realise his dream of walking again. Mr Shitrit, 23, was left paralysed from the chest down after a suicide bombing in Hadera, northern Israel.
Last week, the JC reported exclusively how Mr Shitrit — who uses a wheelchair and was told he would never walk again — stood up, moved his legs and experienced feeling in his toes for the first time since the attack. He had been undergoing daily two-hour rehabilitation sessions at the Mind Clinic in London — a holistic rehabilitation centre dealing with spinal-cord injuries — paid for by One Family. He and his parents have now returned to Israel but hope to return for more sessions if they can get new funding for the £125-an-hour sessions.
One donor, a retired City professional, pledged a further 10 sessions for Mr Shitrit and encouraged his friends to do likewise. Alex Barnett and Steven Mattey, who run property company Tallyspace, paid for him to sit in a box at Spurs last weekend.
