Downloading music has just become a whole lot cheaper thanks to London entrepreneurs James Bott and Darren Sher.
The duo have launched Comparedownload.com, a service designed to save consumers money by offering price comparisons between music retailers such as Play and Amazon. The site provides access to more than 10 million songs and includes related videos, reviews and gig tickets.
Mr Bott, 25 (pictured right), who runs an online jewellery firm, tells People: “There was nothing out there that allowed you to search across all the different providers. Next year the regulators will crack down on illegal downloads, so we wanted to come up with a legal yet cheap way to download.”
The search engine shows, for example, that Duffy’s album Rockferry costs £10.99 on some sites but can be found for as little as £3.99 on others. Web developer Mr Sher, 29, says: “James approached me with the idea and I thought it was fantastic. I normally use iTunes to download music, unaware how easy it is to download from other places and import.” Avid music fans, they hope the site will become a “music information hub”.
The pair have also forged a partnership with streaming service We7 to provide content for a Comparedownload.com-branded music player.
