Italian job for the Red Sea star

Claire Lewis, the only woman ever to have managed a Maccabi League football team, has been handed an even bigger job - as marketing director of Italian giants Inter Milan.

"I'm thrilled. It's an honour to be part of such a prestigious club," she said.

Ms Lewis, a member of Mill Hill Synagogue who previously led Apple's international marketing, has a long connection with the game. She played herself, representing Team GB Ladies at the Maccabiah Games in 2009, and worked as an FA ambassador.

She made Maccabi League history 10 years ago when she became manager of MSFL side Red Sea. Coach Adam Fegan, who worked for her, said: "Being the first female manager certainly didn't faze her. She was very brave and determined and confident in what she was doing. The players all respected her."
