The last royal wedding must have taken place in Israel a couple of millennia ago and probably involved one of the Herods.

But some British expats are planning to celebrate today's marriage of Prince William to Kate Middleton.

The Union Jacks will be flutteriing in Modi'in where resident Dov Newmark (below) is arranging a special Friday night Shabbat street party for 200 people to mark the occasion - believed to be the only one of its kind in Israel, with guests expected to arrive from Jerusalem and Ra'anana.

Meanwhile, Chief Rabbi Lord Sacks and Reform president Rabbi Tony Bayfield will not be the only rabbis going to the actual wedding. The Chief Rabbi's interfaith adviser, Rabbi Alan Plancey, has also accepted an invitation.
