A noted Israeli violinist has posted a musical tribute to Radiohead in honour of their controversial Tel Aviv show.
Michael Greilsammer, whose unique style of reggae, rock and folk was much inspired by the veteran band, posted his take of the rock band’s 1997 hit No Surprises to demonstrate his love for a group he said “changed my life”.
The performance in Tel Aviv was strongly condemned by fellow musician and Pink Floyd front man Roger Waters and film director Ken Loach in calls for a cultural boycott of Israel.
Despite attempts to make the concert political, frontman Thom Yorke has defended the band’s appearance and said “Playing in a country isn’t the same as endorsing its government.”
It is ultimately the band’s legendary music that drew 47,000 fans out to see them last week. Mr Greilsammer said “Radiohead didn’t just change me; it changed the way a lot of people thought about music”.
