Mossad has started an online campaign to recruit agents.
Those interested in applying to be a spy can now fill out an online form. In the past, Mossad would find agents through word-of-mouth and recommendations from elite military units.
According to the application form, required qualities include fluency in Arabic and Farsi and experience in Israeli military intelligence units.
Israeli officials say a lack of interest in public service has left Mossad with fewer applicants than in the past. This may be a result of a growing high-tech industry which entices young Israelis to the private sector.
It is also believed that recent bad press about Mossad has made the work less desirable.
Israeli writer and journalist Yossi Melman told the Times: “It’s less glamorous to work for Mossad than it used to be 20, 30 years ago, but that is because Israel is changing and the notions of idealism, collectivism and state interest are not as attractive as they used to be.”
