US diplomats launch new peace bid

articlemain

Two senior US envoys have flown to the Middle East in a bid to restart the stalled peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians.

Dennis Ross and David Hale have already met Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad and are expected to meet President Mahmoud Abbas in Jordan later this week.

The diplomatic visit comes a month after the resignation of Middle East envoy George Mitchell and nine months after the White House launched a new round of peace negotiations.
