A UN agency has said that men claiming to be from the Hamas-run government in Gaza stole fuel and medical equipment from their compound in Gaza City.

The body, which operates exclusively in the West Bank and Gaza tweeted a statement on Tuesday afternoon, saying that they had received reports of the theft of vital supplies from their offices in Gaza yesterday.

They added that security cameras at the compound were damaged and not functioning during the alleged theft, but that: "fuel and other types of material are kept for strictly humanitarian purposes - any other use is strongly condemned."

The UNRWA, the main UN organisation responsible for working in Palestinian territories, has offices across the Gaza Strip and West Bank and last week said they were moving their operations to the south of the strip after Israel gave notice to evacuate for Palestinians living north of Wadi Gaza.
