A security guard has been seriously injured in a stabbing attack at Jerusalem’s central bus station.

The Israeli – believed to be aged 30 – was attacked this afternoon by a Palestinian man who was later apprehended by police.

It is believed medics from Magen David Adom rushed to treat the victim, who is reportedly in a serious condition in hospital.

The incident comes amid heightened tension as protests against the United States’s decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital continue around the world.

CCTV footage of the stabbing shows the 24-year-old attacker waiting to enter the bus station while security checks are carried out.

He then suddenly turns and knifes the guard, who was standing next to him, apparently once in the chest.

The attacker then sprints away.

It is the latest incident since Donald Trump’s announcement on Wednesday that he would more the US embassy in Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

A firebombing of a Swedish synagogue took place last night, and a kosher restaurant was attacked in the Netherlands late last week.
