Jailed spy Jonathan Pollard says Israel should be executing terrorists until Gilad Shalit is freed, rather than exchanging prisoners for his freedom.
Pollard, who is imprisoned in North Carolina, said the thought of terrorists being released was a chilul Hashem [crime against God]. He expressed horror at reports that Israel has done a deal with Hamas in which 1,000 Palestinian prisoners will be released.
Pollard is currently serving a life sentence in prison for spying for Israel on the United States. Convicted in 1987, he is not due to be released until 2015.
In the past, Pollard is rumoured to have rejected any prisoner swap deal for himself, including a proposed 2004 deal in which he would have been released at the same time as convicted murderer Marwan Barghouti.
Barghouti, the jailed leader of Fatah, is believed to be on the list of Palestinian prisoners to be freed in exchange for Gilad Shalit.
Netanyahu should take the list of prisoners Hamas requested and kill one of them every day until they release Gilad from prison. Jonathan Pollard
At Butner Prison in North Carolina, Pollard spoke to Likud’s Moshe Feiglin and Shmuel Sackett, and said: “Netanyahu should take the list of prisoners Hamas requested and kill one of them every day until they release Gilad from prison. He should not free terrorists, no matter what.”
Mr Feiglin said after the meeting, which was his sixth visit to the prison, that Pollard was in poor health and felt that Israel has forgotten him.
He said: "Just as he was ready to sacrifice his life rather than live knowing that one Jew died because of information that the US did not give to Israel, even after 25 years in prison, Jonathan is not ready for terrorists to be released from jail in exchange for him."
