Netanyahu sets date for Israeli elections - January 22

Benjamin Netanyahu has chosen the date 22 January 2013 for Israel’s next general election. The date, circulated on an internal memo, follows yesterday’s announcemen t that the elections are to be held early.

The Prime Minister stands to do well out of this decision to bring forward the elections, as two public opinion polls published on Thursday in the Israeli media show his Likud party increasing its number of seats in the Knesset.
