The pop singer is visiting Israel with her boyfriend, Australian entrepreneur James Packer, and her children Monroe and Moroccan.

She flew into Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion airport on Saturday reportedly to meet a “spiritual leader” as a “pre-engagement meeting”, according to celebrity gossip website TMZ.

She said: “I waited many years to come here, and I am very moved.”

Israeli media described the meeting with Mr Netanyahu as a success, with Carey and Sara Netanyahu comparing pictures of their children.

She also went to the Western Wall, where she was photographed with her children and is said to have told daughter Moroccan: "Remember the day you visited this very important place.

She now plans to visit Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and the Dead Sea, amid rumours she is planning a concert in Israel.
