Madonna will perform at the Eurovision finals in Tel Aviv, the European Broadcasting Union has confirmed.
Expected to cost about $1 million, Madonna’s appearance at the May 18 show will be funded by Israeli-Canadian billionaire Sylvan Adams, who said he wanted to bring the superstar to Tel Aviv “to try to add a little bit of glitz to the event”.
The singer is expected to perform two songs, a hit single and a new track.
Rumours of Madonna’s involvement in Eurovision have been circulating for months.
In March, the Times of Israel reported that Madonna was threatening to pull out of the performance due to a clash with producers over a politically-charged song.
It is unclear if the song will be included in the Eurovision performance.
The singer’s involvement may also extend off-stage. In an interview last month, Mr Adams said he hoped Madonna would also coach some of the contestants in the competition.
Madonna has not performed in Israel since 2012.
Mr Adams, who has described himself as a “self-appointed ambassador to Israel”, believes the appearance of such the iconic artist will boost tourism and allow more people to see “the true nature” of the country.
Earlier today, the BBC confirmed that Graham Norton will be returning to host UK coverage of the Grand Final, with Scott Mills and Rylan Clark-Neal sharing commentating duties for the semifinal.
